ed for the use of the Harbour Master. In consequence of the removal of the Harbour Office to a new site, the slipway for boats already built opposite the old site will not be serviceable and a new one will require to be constructed.

TAI-PO ROAD, Under the heading "Estimated Cost" I have inserted the sum of $215,000 which, I anticipate, will cover the entire cost of the road from its point of commencement, a little way south of the old boundary line, to Taipo. I see that in this year's Estimates the vote is stated to be for the 2nd section of the road. I find however that no point of division between the 1st and 2nd sections was fixed nor do I see any object in making such a division.

SURVEY OF NEW TERRITORY. The amount of the estimated cost has been increased from $60,000 to $212,000. Full details of this item have already been supplied to you. The estimated expenditure up to the end of this year is $82,000.

CITY OF VICTORIA & HILL DISTRICT WATERWORKS. The original estimated cost of this work was $267,000, the various items of which were stated in Mr. Cooper's Report of the 9th May, 1896, a sum of $7,000 being added for the extension of water mains to Wongneichong and North Point. I find that extensive works have been carried out and charged to this vote, which were not originally provided for, such as an additional motor, two new service reservoirs and new mains to the Peak and Hill districts. I have increased the estimated cost to $306,000 to cover the cost of these.
